Winter Work Habits

Okay, as the date to this post implies, it’s winter. I personally am not working much cuz it’s cold and wet. How do you keep things going in the winter?

You aren’t working because of lack of jobs to clean or it’s too cold for you to work outdoors?

I am in Canada, it is cold and wet for 5-6 months of the year. In Winter I am still working 5 days a week from 8-5 everyday, but I do route work, commercial storefronts.

So, I think @WindowCleaningMan asked a valid question. Do you not have available jobs to do? Or are you just staying home instead of going to work because “it’s too cold”?

If you don’t have available work, then use your free time to canvass and get some work.

If you are staying home when you could be working, then I suggest that you get some warm clothes and proper winter gear and get out there. Otherwise you will lose work to the other window cleaner that is prepared and willing to work.

I am finding that, this being my 1st winter in window cleaning a great time ti work on canvassing and also rethinking my door hangers or my spring time attack mode. I am also learning that alot of cleaners dont do it here in the winter so a great time to attack storefronts and residentials still. Layering clothes is a option! I am reworking my business plan to try and work my way into Commercial accounts also. Try getting in front of real estate agents, property management teams. They have meetings once a month and see if you can focus on explaining your process to better their clients or their own homes. Knock door to door also and see if screen repair is a option. Hope everyone helps each other out.

This is my 13th winter. Route work, route work.

Don’t discount residential either. If it’s in the 40’s a day or 2, who cares if it’s Jan or Feb? As long as it’s not snowy or icy. I’ve done resi in those months and I live in New England.
