White Oxidation Film?

Hi Guys,

I cleaned about 20 exterior windows recently and I noticed whats best described as a white oxidation film leeching from the plastic frames. It was a pain to deal with. I tried everything to minimize it but had no luck. I re-washed several windows until there was no film left.

What did I do wrong? Have you experienced this before? How do I deal with it in the future?

Cheers!

What were you using ? Wfp or trad?

Traditional. It was like every time I washed the windows with my brush then started to squeegee the white streaks would appear. The best explanation I can give is it reminded me of an old fiberglass boat. You know the white chalkiness that comes off?

It’s best on these to use a wfp and scrub and rinse till water runs clear. If you do not have a wfp then use a care wash brush on a pole and rinse with garden hose. You can use one Restore to speed up process it removes oxidation

I think there is a chemical to remove it … @Johnlee does WCR carry any?

If its wfp id suggest to just scrub until it runs clear

If you are cleaning it the traditional way, just make sure that you wipe the frames (with a microfiber) after you scrub it all down and before you squeegee the glass. That way you won’t have emulsified oxidation running onto the glass after you squeegee it. If the frames are badly oxidized you need to wash out your strip washer between each window by agitating it in your bucket and same with your microfiber. I done some that are so bad I changed out my wash water every 10 windows or so.

Yes One Restore works great for removing oxidation call me if you need a gallon 8653100728

@Johnlee I have never heard of window frame oxidation removal as a service. What do people usually charge per window for it?

It can take 3 times or more than it does to clean the glass so charge accordingly. Once they are cleaned you can also use a chemical to protect them made by the same company EACO that makes One Restore

I use One Restore a lot in my pressure washing biz but I’m having a hard time picturing using it to just do window frames. I assume that you can’t spray it on or it will run down the siding and streak it, so it’s applied with a rag by hand?

Yes with a microfiber towel.
