What Soap mix do you use?

Hello All,

I know there has been talk about what soap mix you used buried in other threads so I wanted a more central place. I am in Central Texas and it’s HOT, so I am trying to test out some different mixes and wanted to know what you have found works best in the heat, I know Luke uses Dawn, I plan on using that but I am worried about the heat and leaving a residue. Does anyone use GG4 and touch of Dawn for slip? GG4 looks like it leaves a nice shine but everyone complains about the slip, being new I know thats going to be an issue for me and the evaporation.

Also should one use tap water or filtered, we have really hard water here, like 250 most times.

Theres always Glass Gleam Glide to the rescue: https://www.titanlabs.net/gg-glide.htm

I’d personally still go with dawn. KC can get very hot. I’m sure Texas is hotter but it’s not abnormal to reach well into triple digit heat index. But if you were to use gg4 I would definitely use dawn as slip not the titan labs slip. Doesn’t even compare in my opinion.

I’ll have to give that a try. Do you mix this with anything else?

No, just add to water. plenty of suds and glide without drying out too quickly.

We only use biological dish soap in my apprenticeship company, sometimes mixed with Alcohol cleaner if needed but thats about it.

Anyone got an idea how good GlassGleam actually is cleaning-wise?

We love Glass Gleam 4, that’s just us. Of course we do 95% residential, not much commercial. I think that can make a difference too. I believe it keeps the windows cleaner longer, in fact we were doing a horse farm several times a year and when we started using this after a year they said these windows are staying cleaner longer. We lost one cleaning a year :confused:because of it, but they were cleaner longer. I’m convinced of it, we can tell and so can the customer. We want the best customer experience so when they can cut back and save but still have clean windows they really appreciate that. We make up for that by more referrals anyways. GG4 isn’t a detergent, does not leave a residue on the glass that can attract dirt, dust and so on. When you wash dishes with dish soap you rinse the dishes with water to get that residue off, how do you do that on a window. You don’t, so that residue stays on there and fills in the pores of the glass. Of course if you do commercial route work, you’re there so often it doesn’t really matter. This is just how we do it, nothing wrong with using dish soap though. Hope that helps.

Does it have better cleaning abilities though than dish soap?

I wouldn’t say it has better cleaning abilities, dawn does a pretty good job as far as removing grease and dirt. I would say their similar as far as that goes. I like that it’s not a “detergent “ leaves no film on the glass, also it slows down evaporation on the window and bleeding. It’s friendly to your hands and the environment. We just like it over other soaps, of course we do mostly residential too. You can email a Titan Labs and ask for a sample and they will send some to you for free, if you would like to try it.

I also mostly do residential with a few small commercial mixed in. Been using GG4 only for the last 3 years and I also have been getting comments from my customers that the windows are staying cleaner longer. I’m sold on it. Yes it doesn’t have the slip of dish soap but I do use a little more then recommend on the bottle and that does help and I still get great feedback from my customers.

I always say “ if dawn is good enough for the ducks, it’s good enough for your house.” Seriously though, I had one client who insisted I use Joy dish soap cuz his friend worked for a company that put $Ks into researching the best solution for glass cleaning, and apparently Joy was the best. I cleaned 5 windows with Joy, then switched back to Dawn. He was was shocked when I showed him the results. Joy left streaky smears all over, dawn has always worked great for me! It’s my go to!

Squirt of Ecover and 5oz cap of Unger Easy Glide in a 420ml sprayer.

I got sick of smelling Dawn long ago.

I’ve used GG4 and the Titan Labs Slip in the Florida sun and it’s bearable but I’d prefer the Ecover and Glide.

In sweden we have a soap called fönstersåpa.
It’s like dish soap but without the oil that leave a film on the glass.
So dust and stuff doesn’t stuck on it.

what is slip?

“Slip” would be how well your squeegee glides across the glass.

Using ecover, love GG4 but here in Belgium there is no dealer.I have to let it shipped from the UK which is way to expensive

I’ve been using Ettore concentrate, distilled water (sometimes tap), and recently adding some vinegar (not sure where I learned that).
It seems ok so far, but I’m not sure how much my concoction affects streaking or what’s to be expected.
For those of you using Dawn…is it 1tsp per gallon of water? Adding anything else? Does distilled water make a big difference? I’ve experimented some, but I feel like I’m still so new that my technique improving makes it hard to determine if any changes in materials has made a difference.

I use dawn, not really sure bout 1tsp/gal. I just give it a good squirt. You want it good and sudsy but not to soapy. Pretty easy to gauge out when you get used to what you like.

Some days I use dawn, other days I use the Ettore super concentrate window clean liquid. I find for me in the high desert mountains it doesn’t streak as easy. I think it is safe to say we all have our preferences.
