I’m going to quote my first house on Wednesday and I was wondering what all you do for residential? Let’s say someone wants the works, what does that include and how much do you charge for it? For cleaning glass, screens, sill, frames, tracks, anything. What all do you do and what do you charge?
You really need to use the search function. And also, go check out Window Cleaning Resource | Community and use the search bar there as well.
No point starting generic threads over and over again. Do a little digging first, and ask more specific questions if you can’t find what you are looking for.
This will help you personally, and will help this forum from becoming bloated with repetitive basic topics.
Use the search feature on those types of questions, most of the time they are answered within those older threads, all the info is there for you. Try it out, I do that personally myself beforehand, if I can’t find the answer to my questions after that, I start a new thread with my particular question. Good question though!
I like the fact you are using the forum to the fullest, you are getting out there and taking massive action with the storefronts. Hardly a novice with storefronts anymore but I am with you…residential can be confusing. Let me clear up some things.
It is going to depend on the type of service that you provide, how big the windows are and how long since they were cleaned last can be a factor as well.
Take an industry standard double hung window for instance. You can start as low at $6.00 per window on the outside only and go up to $14.00 to $16.00 per window for inside, outside, sills, frames, tracks, screens. At that point you would have a great chance at getting in the market, even with a lack of experience (you are getting there with the stores and its great so far). Residential is going to be a different ball game because you will have owners that tell you a million and one things about the house. For pricing just need to know the following:
Are the windows original to the home or were they installed recently?
When was the last time were they cleaned?
Do they have hard calcium deposits, spots of paint, scratches, tint, condensation?
How clean do the owners want the windows?
When you figure this out, you can figure out the service needed. If you want to give more options, you can. I usually include the tracks, sills, screens, frames with the inside and outside service I provide. If the owners only really care about just the outside glass, you could include it in your pricing if you think they could benefit from it. Turn 6-8 dollars a window into say 8-10 for the outside if you included screens.
There is not a one size fits all for all markets. Also, remember YOU ARE THE PROFESSIONAL even if you have zero experience with residential right now. The homeowners are looking to you for answers. The more credibility, respect and being liked as well, the better chance you have of getting action and commitment to move forward on the homeowners behalf.
What one person says on here, I promise someone else will say something slightly different. However, figure out what your time is worth or what the job is worth to you then charge that. In other words, how much do you want to make for cleaning this house for someone?
Be the professional and ask yourself: “What do I know already about this?” “Is this similar to things I have done before?” “Is this experience something I have never asked before and could look off someone else’s experience.”
I hope this gives you some insight and sheds some light over your doubt. You got this!
