Residential in the winter

How many of you guys are still cleaning residential? How far into the winter will you work?

I’m still doing what I get calls for, but for the past month the phone hasn’t been ringing much. I’ll work rain sleet or snow (as long as it’s safely manageable) if anyone has advice on how to build residential work over the winter, I’m all ears.

I had 7 residentials last week, 2 yesterday and one coming up on friday. weather in colorado is crazy!! SteveO probably mentions that in a couple of videos. you can have snow, rain, hail, clear skies and sunshine all in the same day. This is my first year in business so i was worried about not having enough commercial to make it through the winter, i went out and got like 15 more commercial jobs since last month and then my residential work just exploded out of nowhere, i got 6 new customers and the other were repletes from spring and summer likely because of the holidays people want their homes nice for guests. but ive been crazy swamped with work, its a good problem to have i guess. I dont expect to have very many more after this last one on Friday but if the weather allows ill do residential all year( i dont use antifreeze, wiper fluid or anything to keep the water from freezing). is there some reason why i shouldn’t do residential past a certain time of the year? criticism is greatly appreciated if it can help me better the BIZ.

Down here in the Southern hemisphere it’s summer. Busiest time of the year for me as everyone wants clean windows for Xmas.
However, November was the wettest for 137years and December has already passed it’s monthy rainfall figure. It’s raining today and will do so up to Xmas. Despite all this, I’m just about to pass last year’s sales target and am also ahead of last year’s cumulative sales despite having weeks off in June/July.
Winter sucks but summertime with consatnt rain, I’m so looking forward to seeing some sunshine.

I think building res work over the winter can be difficult. But now is a great time for planning your 2019 spring marketing . I’m excited to get to it! We have been working on a few large projects that will be launched within the next week or so for the window cleaning community, then I’m getting to work on our marketing .

Agreed! I am planning for next spring already. Can’t wait to see what you’re working on!

We’re done, start back up in March sometime. We usually stop in December, could of worked today and tomorrow in the 50’s but packed everything up… getting our power washing rig in February, getting our insurance and legal stuff updated for that service to be prepared for spring. See how we like the pressure washing business, something different for sure.

Jealous

Will you be offering soft washing?

Pressure washing has really added a lot to my business this past season!

still mild in the UK, dont do many houses but clean a number of apartment blocks and several schools all of which will be on going through the winter .
Unless the weather is really bad I will keep on going

Yes, I can soft wash with my washer, just change the tips.

Yeah, I’ve been asked so much over the years I decided to go for it and get a rig and start offering it.

Best of luck! Reanna and I have been thinking about adding it for the past year or so. Let us know how it goes!

anyone wanna come work with me this weekend?

Lol! Fortunately I was inside on this one. Winterizing the plumbing systems. I’ve been trying for 2 years though to get this as a window job, they’re a filthy mess!

Winterizing the plumbing, what does that include? Is that like a summer cabin or something to that effect? Brings to mind, I did a 97-window summer cottage this spring, and the owners are notorious for destroying something every year on account of freezing some part of their plumbing. I could actually quote them for doing something like that. 97 windows equals no shortage of change in this case, so it might work. Summer cabins here in Finland are also more and more equipped, so maybe this is a good add-on for me. I’d appreciate if you could tell me what that winterizing is all about. Thanks!

I can only recommend offering this service if you have a good bit of experience in plumbing and if your insured for it. I drain all the supply line system and replace all water in traps/toilets with RV antifreeze.
