Office for the Day - Need a longer pole

Two Houses this afternoon on a bit of a country trek. It was worth it.

Exteriors only. But that’s ok. First house had 47 panes and the second had 64 and a view like that I’ll take any day instead of an office. Ran into a couple of issues though. Just starting and so for my own OCD I like to clean face to glass on a ladder to make sure I can detail out everything. Homeowner was kinda surprised at first but then was quite appreciative of the attention to detail. Had 4 though that there was no way to safely place a ladder and so had to do them by pole. I have a 16’ Unger Home Depot. I was maxed out and standing on my tippy toes to get them all while fighting a lilac bush. Essentially, for the carbon fibre poles for trad cleaning, are people just using a water fed pole with an adapter tip installed or is there 30’ trad poles available?

With being face to glass I make a habit of scrubbing the glass with a white scrubby and picked some paint flecks off with my nail. Both homeowners were surprised by this and said the previous ones who did it never did that. I don’t go crazy with the paint specks, but is that something usually reserved for construction cleans and don’t worry about it on base cleaning? Would love to hear what the others in Southern Alberta typically do.

Thanks.

I’m not in BC, actually far from it in Central Florida, but I run into a lot of paint overspray when I am in 55+ communities. The HOA’s will bid out the entire neighborhood to a painter every 5-7 years and most of the time they come in a spray the houses without doing any major prep. Often they thin out the paint so that it will pump through the sprayer smoother and they use blocker boards/cardboard pieces to “cover” the window as they are spraying the edge. They don’t actually cover the glass with tape and paper or anything because to them it is a waste of time and profit margin. Anyway, there is often significant amounts of overspray on the glass. Sometimes it is across the top pane edge, other times it is flecks across the entire window. I have also seen it happen when the painters use rollers instead of sprayers, but roll super fast with a heavy load of paint in the roller and droplets go flying.

What I do is, as I am removing the screens I am looking to see if there are any spots and on how many windows. If it is on 1 or 2, I’ll scrape them off for free during the course of the normal cleaning. If it is on 3 or more, I will charge them an extra 3 dollars per window for me to scrape and “rewash” the window (mostly to account for the extra time spent at each window).
