Motivation

I’ve been in this trade off and on for about 19 years but only started my business (again), only 3-4 months ago. My greatest struggle is staying motivated on my off days. What are some of the things you do to stay motivated in this business/trade on days you are off or short days?

I do spend time posting on social media and looking for potential business online. Florida is littered with gated communities which hinders passing out door hangers and direct mail is not an option yet due to finances. Store fronts and plazas are littered with bucket Bob’s and $10 jobs are not going to cut it. I also do pressure washing which brings in more at the moment. Any pointers would help.

Listening to WCRNation and watching you tube videos helps me stay motivated. I want to get out there (or practice on my own home’s windows) to apply what I have just learned. Also developing a more efficient system is motivating to me

Honestly YouTube videos and just the challenge of growing my business is a motivator for me. I know it may sound corny but growing our company to provide a good life for Reanna and myself is my main motivation.

You are trying to set a pace. I understand. Great Grandmaster Fred Villari said in a seminar many years ago, you never fight where your opponent is comfortable. A striker will strike, a kicker will kick and a grappler will grapple. Instead of striking a striker, kick him or lock his wrists up or just throw him. Instead of kicking a kicker, just strike him instead of take out his other leg. Instead of trying to grapple a grappler, trying kneeing, elbowing, striking and kicking him.

So it sounds like you are bothered by bucket bobs and 10 dollar storefront cleanings with gated communities blocking you out. Try this perspective, what is your competition (or the people you are better than) not willing to do? For starters you could always boast you have more experience so you could definitely charge more.

Also people hate cold calls to businesses. I know exactly why too. People just don’t know how to do it correctly. Think about it, if everyone was good at cold calling, there would be no money in it. Also can you borrow the money off someone or off a card or a line of credit? Anything? It’s better to take action today and iron the details later. At least if you know you are doing the wrong thing, you will know sooner rather than later.

Point I’m getting at. Do not let what is happening out there with those guys or even this government or your friends or family tell you what’s possible and what’s not. They are playing by the rules of what most believe to be one economy, however there are multiple. Create your own economy, disregard everything else and start setting the pace so everyone follows YOU.

As far as the motivation, constantly force yourself to LEARN then when you had enough, unplug and go use the time you always had, to practice what you have learned. The people who take action, who are always willing to go learn new things, and practice what they know will triumph! The people who don’t take action or don’t want to learn, generally falter.

Staying motivated at times can be difficult. Being a salesman, a worker, and a owner is definitely not a easy thing to do. Motivating factors of learning is a must. We have to better ourselves everyday. I like the challenge of cold calling. Because it helps me learn peoples body language. It helps me pay attention to how I present why my service is better. Most people will buy within a minute. So be observant of the store surroundings. Not just the glass, see what kind of people they hire, what their sports teams are. Because talking about other things besides cleaning the glass will get you to ease their thinking also

I enjoy audio books on sales. There are many to choose from. I have a group that we all listen to a book then discuss it. It gets me charged up.

I love audiobooks on sales as well. Problem is I read a ton of them and actually practice the material. It makes for a very dangerous individual when used correctly.

My favorite is Zig Ziglars Secrets of Closing the Sale

Zig was the man. I learned a lot reading from Brian Tracy, Jeb Blount, Grant Cardone, Daymond John, Gary V, Dale Carnegie, Chris Voss, Tim Grover, and so on.

I agree with a few other guys with checking out youtube. but the biggest thing for me is holding myself accountable for my business and making sure that even if im not out cleaning, at least im learning something about business or an aspect of business, BUILDING SYSTEMS to make everything easier and usually i find myself exited to go out and practice a revised system and get good at it. i hear that there is a “GROOVE” so by having and sticking to routines you develop ROBOT MODE and everything you do on the cleaning side of things is automatic. but im definitely not to that point, i totally feel the struggle often, but i try to make myself get to work, and usually by the end of the day, i feel better. @windowninja.co

This is the end of my 3rd year In business. It was really the first year that I really put my best effort into it. Seeing how I did this year, really makes me look forward to next season, because now I can see the potential of growth. Like @Luke, I want to make a better life for my wife and I.
Also, I like to spend time figuring out how to make work easier on myself, and how to be more efficient.
