Moldy Windows

I’m working up an estimate for a French pane job. Entire house is old, wooden framed French panes… I’m having trouble with whether or not I should even take on this job. I counted 382 panels and a lot of them have a fair amount of what appears to be black mold. What do you guys do in this situation?

Price it high or walk away! It would be extra $$$ if they wanted mold removal from the frames. We price French panes starting at 1.45 each piece both sides.

Yeah, I’m at $1.75 per pane. I was just more concerned from the health/safety aspect.

Are they Pella windows? That “black mold” may not actually be mold at all. Pella was sued a while back due to the caulk they were using on their some of their windows. It would ooze a black color. I ran into that with a customer and we thought it was black mold but it wasn’t.

I would upcharge for the mold, say 6x the cost of a 3M respirator/new mops and you’re set.

Antibacterial dish soap too, lol, try that.
