Marketing

So from my brief research you can market through the following for these cost…

  1. Home advisor = $200/mo min
  2. Angies list = $300/mo min
  3. Google = $30 per ad or the new thing of buying phrases searched for $60/mo per phrase
  4. Facebook = $5-$100 (or whatever you want to pay) to “boost” an ad
  5. Door hangers and walking around = $50 + your time
  6. Direct mail = ?
  7. BNI (local networking group) = $80 ish a month +time commitment
  8. Free Facebook word of mouth groups?
  9. Newspaper ads = ?

I want to hear from you. What are you using that actually works in your area? What is your “customer acquisition cost”?

What is the fastest way for new people to land 1-3 jobs for the least cost?
What is the best way for people to go from 7-10 jobs/month up to 20-30 jobs a month?

Let me hear your opinions on marketing

I personally like google ads. I choose what to pay. Of course, the more you pay, the more it runs. I can also choose the areas it running in.
I use different variations of wording and switch it up from time to time. And then the link takes you to my website.image

I’m only 4 months into this, but my brief experience near Tampa, FL has been Google works the best since lets admit it (most people just google what they want). Facebook is OK, but it’s just planting seeds for later because you need people to like your page, and maybe eventually they will call you unlike google where they click on your page or call now. I even threw an ad on “letgo”, but no luck yet since I don’t think people seeking a “luxery” service use that a lot. I did land a couple homes just by knowing a local real estate agent so that seems valuable to know people. My friend in south Carolina loves home adviser but $200/month for so-so leads doesn’t feel solid to me. Does anyone know specifically how to land office buildings or restaurants? Is it as easy as walking in with a nice looking quote, and a handshake?

Yes, that’s exactly what you do. I haven’t focused on building much commercial work yet but @Luke has definitely featured this in his videos. You could land some right away, others will take some time and persistence.

I haven’t personally pursued this but theres a great episode on WCR Nation about Commercial accounts if youd like to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41GbikAh61A

As for marketing… I find Google works really well, haven’t experimented yet with Facebook and as a Canadian I don’t have access to Home Advisor or Angies List. Door Hangers are great if you have the time. My newspaper ad sort of flopped, seemed like a bit of a waste of money compared to other advertising avenues and their ROI.

The reason I love Google is that I find a lot of folks in the 50-70 year demographic might not realize that ads pay to be at the top. I’ve asked people how they found me and very often I hear “We saw you at the top of Google and knew you were the best around.” Well, sure I do a great job (as do most of us) but my organic ranking is definitely not yet on the first page. Sort of funny when you realize that their generation views it that way and for me that is my main demographic to land jobs with. So for now Google is the main breadwinner although I like to experiment and test others.

I think Facebook is next for me. For those that don’t know: DONT BOOST POSTS. You can get much much better ROI by creating an ad from scratch and setting a specific demographic (or a few to A/B test between ads as one should) Facebook encourages boosting because it earns them wheelbarrows of cash from those that boost and want better results. However this doesnt let you target customers and create a specific demographic which will yield much better results.

Thanks for sharing that episode on marketing. In that he said that landing bigger jobs can take up to 6 months to land, and a lot of kissing up and phone calls etc… I cleaned a couple store fronts yesterday, in an outdoor strip mall type of setting, and decided to talk to a couple stores near by. One was an At&t store, and they said their window cleaners are hired by corporate so I politely asked for contact info. The manager acted like they never give that out. So… I guess I can google stuff if I feel like it. I don’t think stuff like that is worth the hassle when it might only be a $35-$50 job.

I do agree that google seems like the way to go because if you google something then normally you are ready to get a quote (or why google something). Facebook is just the thing people stare at when they should be working. I did however land a $315 house by BOOSTING a facebook post for $15. You’re probably right in saying it’s better to start fresh on a facebook ad though.

I have used a combo of BNI groups. They have contributed alot to my residential side. Started with just the glass, than that opened the door to their gutters, and eventually their screens. As far as commercial, I have knocked on doors and justbeing seen is alot to having people come up to you come to our shop next. Door hangers still not able to keep track of the Return. Today I did do alot of residential door to door. Scored 3 homes on 1 street scheduled for the next day. But with that said. There were alot of Nos also. But nature of the business. Definitely need tough skin

Depending on the restaurant ownership type. Owner operation can make decisions quickly. They know what it’s worth to them to have good help. The corporate stores are tougher but they will call you if your stay with your Website and canvass. Have a purchase order that you can throw together with what you want them to commit to in terms of regular maintenance. Whatever you agree to. A good website doesn’t have to cost 200. Small business owner/operators get specials demand them.
You might try to Go to the places that have just opened thier doors for business, b4 they pick up the phone, Tell them your price , Give them your number. They might talk to corporate and find your better and local can provide future business. Builders of custom homes or car dealerships can lead to getting work of various sizes. If you get to knowing realtors themselves, have them give you a try at thier own place. Leave business cards in the lobbies of appt. buildings and at grocery stores. Kijiji. Window cleaner, friendly customer service, free estimates. Your name and #.
Do estimates over the phone fixed prices for certain types of housing. 2 story $200. 1 story with basement $150.
But it’s a quick ESTIMATED Number in the ball park. Apartments cleaning 100$.
If they can’t use you at the store yet. Maybe they can use thier home cleaned exterior 100$.

I saw in one of your photos that you use Reach-It. How do you like their poles? I just got the Tactical Elite pack not too long ago. I am enjoying it so far but have a few things Im not super excited about but have little use on it.

What is your prefferred brush for residential? We deal with a lot of bee pollen here and the nylon bristles arent the best for this.

I am still using the reach it mini for most jobs and it is actually a good pole. I have the original style clamps. I think they just upgraded to be similar to what the xero line has. This is the main pole that I use because I didn’t pay for it, a friend gave it to me. When I can, I’ll be buying one of the xero micro series poles.

I used to use the constructor brush head that’s all boars hair. After a while, the edges started going bare so I couldn’t get corners very well. They now sell a euro thread adapter. I got it so I could start using the hybrid Tucker alpha brush which I’ve been very happy with.

Hope this helps
