Luke (and others) what's your story?

@Luke, what’s your story? How long have you been into window cleaning, how long did it take you to get where you were actually what you would call a good selection and good at your job? What’s your background?

Anyone else care to answer?

I think this has some of our story.

I’ve been cleaning windows now for about 10 years. I’m self taught and was really bad in the beginning. I started when I was working at a restaurant. Did that for about a year or so. Then decided it was something that I wanted to invest more time in. So I quit that job and started bartending. Gave the the flexibility I needed to try to get my company going. I did that for another 2 and half years I believe. I got comfortable with bartending and window cleaning for a bit. Didnt have a ton of drive to go full time yet. I finally landed a pretty big monthly commercial contract and decided to go all in. I did and again after a while I just got in this awkward comfort zone. Few more years pass and I met reanna. A fire was lit in me and I went all in. I finally decided I wanted to have a business and not be just a window cleaner. That’s when everything really started to change for us. Reanna also brought a second set of very neccessary eyes to the company. She raised our prices and got a lot of things in order. Since we have continued to have success and a clear vision of where we want our company to be.

@Luke, how did you find out about window cleaning? How long did it take you until you got into a sort of sync with your window cleaning and felt like you knew a little bit about what you were doing and could pull off most jobs? Is there any part of window cleaning you still feel weak in?

I always saw the cleaners at the restaurant. I had a friend that worked with me at that job, his father had a small company for years. We talked about it and started together. The partnership didnt last very long. Being self taught for the most part , I’d say it took me a year or more to be honest. Tons of trial and error. I would watch videos, but there wasn’t anything like there is now back then. Only a handful of guys vlogging. I honestly feel really confident in what I do. Rather its commercial, storefront or residential.

I did 5 years worth of window cleaning in the UK when I was (much ) younger. Came to NZ 2002, did a whole heap of jobs, then had a breakdown in 2013.
After 5 months off from planet earth, decided to rejoin so started window cleaning again as I could monitor my health and pace myself. Started doing 2-3 days a week and 5 years on its now my full time Mon-Fri job.
I find it great as a) I can maintain my physical and mental health b) love being out and about in God’s great countryside c) Love being back in this business working for myself, meeting people.

Every day I try and improve in some part of the business, be it in cleaning, scheduling, accounts or any other part that you have to do running your own business.
You do have to schedule in time for yourself (see another thread as to holidays/time off) and also recognise there are other things more important than working every hour under the sun.

Hi, I am writing from Santiago Chile.
I’m starting with my window cleaning company. CRISTALCLEAN. I have watched many of your videos and tips since I got my first job in an apartment and they congratulated me for my work. I think I invested a lot more time than I thought but that’s it. All good the first time.

That’s awesome man! Are you focused on res or com window cleaning ?

I don’t have this service in the place where I live, therefore, I am starting as a residential. I want to have more experience and then do commercial.

Chevere, buena suerte!
