Ladders and large windows

I don’t have a watered pole and just finished. My first gutter job. In my gutter job I noticed some big windows that would be awful hard to brace a ladder against to clean. How do you clean it then?

A sectional ladder works or a wfp is the best solution

APrior to water fed pole popularity, a large picture window would be done with a pole.
If it is dirty then multiple passes are made and taken into quoting consideration.
It can be done and done well.
Scrub the window well, cut in the tops, use straight pulls with a raised leading edge and fractional overlap if it is a really large square or rectangular.
If it has a deep ledge use a ledger but if no serious edge then use a backflip (18/20inch).
If it is a funky shape then use the Moerman Fliq or Wagtail!
Treat it the same as a commercial window! :facepunch:

And if you can’t do it well with a pole, look at different ways to set your ladders. I did some that with filthy the other day where my stabilizer arms would not fit across properly in any position so I took them off and set the top of my ladder above the window and reached past the ladder to get it. Just remember, you are better to use multiple ladder positions than to reach to far and end up falling.

I’ve been hired to clean a building that’s owned by the Chamber of Commerce. The windows are too high for my 23 foot extendable ladder and they’re shaped oddly. There’s two sections to the window, the top section which has three or four tall, Slender sections and the lower section which is a larger window pane. I was there the other day and after I noticed my ladder wouldn’t reach I try to hit it with a Trad Pole, but it came out terrible. I mean really, really horrible. I don’t want to give this job up because it’s a nice chunk of change for
me, but I’ve hit a dead end and don’t know what to do.

Why not invest in a taller ladder?

I weigh 280 pounds and I had surgery a few years ago that seriously jacked up my balance and agility. I think this 23-foot ladder is the highest I’m willing to climb at the moment. Maybe more later on, but for right now I’m sticking with it.

Gotcha, well you could get a doodle bug and a huck towel and use spray away. Or dry steel wool and try to buff it out. Either of these wont give 100% results especially when sun comes through but you dont have many options. The only other may be wfp? You could try to contact a local guy and see if you could sub him for the tops?

WFP equipment is definitely a good investment, but it’s tough when you’re first starting out. Look at some DIY videos on YouTube for making your own WFP.

What’s a doodle bug?
