Interior skylight cleaning

How does everyone go about cleaning the interiors of skylights? We we’re using a ladder to reach them and then traditionaling them but it gets blazing hot up there and bring the laddering in the house is a pain. Thinking about the stingray or other such tools

We have a sting ray, and also the Unger doodle bug works great too.

We use a little invisible glass on the pads and works great

I have been using pole and moerman fliq. I also have a Stingray, but haven’t needed to use it. Sometimes I run into skylights with the screen on the inside that forces me to use a ladder. I bought an Xtend & Climb ladder to have as another tool to use for interior work.

If they are higher than the 18 feet the Stingray reaches we have a 25 foot carbon fiber one from IPC Eagle https://shopwindowcleaningresource.com/ipc-hydro-clean-indoor-water-fed-system.html

Like @drew0379 I was using an Ettore contour pro at 0 degrees but now that I have a Fliq I will be giving it a try as it will be quicker than transferring tools (like with the contour pro) or asking an employee to come inside to operate the mop on a seperate pole so you can get to it straight away.
Things to remember…

  1. Place down an old double bed sheet or large drop cloth to catch the water.
Don’t rely on towels being sufficient when cleaning a large area high up above.
  2. Load plenty of water on to the mop but wring it out to remove excess.
  3. Pre mop the panels to remove excess dirt/heat to prevent streaking.
  4. If initial clean then just be quick on the first pass… as u will be doing it again anywayfor to fix the swishes/ drag marks etc!!!
  5. MOST IMPORTANTLY!
Chose your time of day. If possible do this first thing in the morning before there is any heat on the panels. It will be a lot easier and provide a better end result

But if you have the money invest in the Unger Stingray. I think it will definitely be a winner for reclean internal height work.

Great tips, thanks you! We have learned some of these from trial and error but it’s helpful to see it in a comprehensive list! A week ago we actually cleaned some interior skylights that were cleaned by another window cleaner but they were left streaky, I would have been so ashamed to have left them like that! :hushed::frowning:
The stingray is on my list!

Try the Unger speed clean kit much more efficient https://shopwindowcleaningresource.com/unger-speedclean-window-kit.html

Thanks @Johnlee for the tip!
Could you please explain how the Speed cleaner is better than Stingray?
I see that you can use the stingray without having to bring down the pole and spray the pad which is good but it can’t be used up really high like the speed cleaner on a regular pole?
Also do you have to use the special solution for the Stingray? No Di water?
Please enlighten us with the pros/cons of each system.
Many thanks

The Stingray is great for lower windows and has its own built in solution and is efficient. There is a weakness in the pole when you use all the 10 foot sections. The joints can break with to much pressure. Unger is good about replacing them. The speed clean kit is good for all windows no matter how high. It will attach to a wfp with Euro threads. The down side is you have to spray the pad with Sprayway so its not as efficient but it works great. The triangle pad on the stingray does a better job on the edges than the speed clean pad. Both are great tools

Many thanks @Johnlee
I can’t wait to try either, both good for different uses then!
The speed clean up high and if u can afford both then the Stingray down low!
Buy speed clean first if u have a lot of high windows above 10 feet or buy Stingray first if you have more below 10 foot regular internal work.
@Johnlee any chance you could produce a video (or direct us to a good one) showing how to use these tools effectively with any little tips you have as it seems to get some bad feedback from window cleaners online?

Here are a few good videos SpeedClean Professional Window Cleaning Kit Instructional Video - YouTube
