If you started all over again

If you could give advice to someone a year into the business. What should I focus my time on and what should be my goals?

Scaling. Go big as you can because all you have is time and no money. Never make your goals small, make them insanely huge. That way if you fail to meet it, you at least will have beat your original goal. Focus on getting people to pay you, also often and well.

Attitude will be crucial to scaling, you are not a bum, you are a professional, if you cannot be a professional at least act the part. Make everything about the people you service and never about you and ask questions to people you are pitching to when the opportunity presents itself.

You will get the job done and it will take as long as it takes if you are new. Eventually work on your transitioning with equipment and between windows to save time. Also false confidence is the same as actual confidence to someone you are pitching to. They can’t see what you are feeling on the inside, if you know you are good, it should develop naturally anyway.

Finally follow up after service, have people leaving you ratings, take pictures and video to post on your business page. 90% of business are repeat customers. Either have a strong email, phone call or Facebook message game or grab a useful CRM or automation program that deals with that but also one that gets you more clients I.E. Infusionsoft.

Figure out why you are doing what you are doing. What is the end game? Sell the business, retire early, be your own boss, only work 6 months a year, etc…

It’s so easy to say I’m going to have 10 employees and 5 trucks and 3 locations, but why? Why 10 employees and not 4, or 24? Too many people pull arbitrary goals out of thin air because it sounds good or because that’s what someone else is doing, but it won’t motivate you and you’ll never really know if what you’re doing is what you should be doing.

Again, figure out what you want, why you want it and what you’re willing to sacrifice to get it. Write it down and review it often.
