Gutters in the winter

I just missed out on $250 today because the gutters I was supposed to clean are frozen. I’m sure anything would be a pain, but does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning out frozen gutters?

Thought you’d never ask…

Stay tuned.

Lol! Ok

For us we dont clean gutters when they are frozen. Dangerous for the technicians, if the gutters are frozen the ground probably is too. Not to safe for ladders and not to say to be on a roof.

It also take a lot more time. We simply explain this to the customer and re schedule for a warmer day. We had to do this again this week. 4 gutter cleanings next Tuesday :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Yeah that’s what I ended up doing. Couldn’t scoop anything out, hopefully I’ll get a day next week, snow storm this weekend :imp:

I only do gutters using my pressure washer, no ladders and probably takes a quarter of the time. So, if it is below freezing I just don’t do gutters at all.

I use my pressure washer for it when I can walk the roof line, I haven’t gotten that hook yet. But yeah, freezing temps are just about freezing my wallet right now. While I’ve been building up my biz, I haven’t gotten into much commercial yet.

Where did you get that hook attachment from? Is it looks good

Here is the link:

It is amazing. I was skeptical at first. But, it does a better job than you possibly could with a ladder and hands.

I use it with an 18’ extension wand so I can do 2 stories as well:

I will not do gutter cleaning any other way.

If you are walking roofs for gutter cleaning, I would prefer a good leaf blower.

The main advantage to having a pressure washer is being able to do the same job, from the ground. Safer, and faster.

Yeah, I’m gonna get that attachment to go with my pole. But I don’t care for the leaf blower as much cuz most of the gutters I do are wet and sloppy. I like to blast out what I can and use water for the spouts. But that’s just my preference. If I’m on a high roof, I tie myself up and charge more.

Here in Wisconsin, winter came super early. Gutters froze, thawed out then froze again. It’s not worth the hassle and risk trying to break up the ice. You may risk puncturing the gutter. It’s simply inefficient. You might as well return when it’s warmer out. Also, while using that attachment seems like a good idea, how would you unclog a downspout? Does that attachment work for downspouts?

I haven’t used the attachment yet. I just like using water to clear spouts.

I have that attachment. It works pretty good, but it won’t help much for down sprouts. You could always spray them out from the bottom I guess. I’ve still found a ladder is faster most of the time

Use this in tandem with a hot water pressure washer, like hotsy or landa.
