Green as the Spring

Hey Luke… love the videos man. Know that takes a ton of effort on y’alls part. Hope you hear how’s much it’s appreciated, and if not, it has at least been appreciated by this guy for sure!

Long story short… I’m 38 and been in land surveying for 13 years. Recently realized I am somebody working my ass off for someone else’s dreams. Needed a change and wanted to work for something that would be mine. A buddy of mine has a successful pressure washing business and threw out the idea of window cleaning. Said it would be perfect for me because I love being outside, getting on ladders and rooftops, talking to clients, etc… I went home that night and went down the YouTube rabbit hole of window cleaning vids. Yours really enforced the notion that I could really do this and make it a business. So, thank you, if nothing more than for that alone.

That said, I’ll ask my first stupid new boss question…

Are most handles compatible with most other brand’s channels? (i.e. an unger ninja handle with an brass channel) I’m sure you’ve probably answered this in you’re videos but I haven’t seen it so far, and I’m beginning the process of picking out an arsenal

Thanks and hope all is well bruh

unger ninja handle with ettore brass channel

Hi Glassman!

I know I’m not Luke but I can help answer your question.

There are 2 types of channels - standard and widebody.

Standard channels are your brass, stainless steel and aluminum channels, as linked here:

Widebody channels are anodized aluminum, have a thicker body to them and tend to distribute pressure more evenly and are resistant to warping. These are generally used for storefront work, as there are often large panes of glass to clean.
See them here:

Ninja handles are only compatible with widebody channels. They can be used on any and all widebodies.

A great handle for standard channels is the new Moerman 2.0, here:

Wow, thanks for the quick reply and for the clarification! The channels I am looking to get are the ettore brass channels which I’m assuming are standard (?). How do I tell the difference? Would it be in the specs? I haven’t come across any that specifically say wide body yet…

Also, the main reason for asking was wondering whether I should get a handle for each separate channel (6”, 8”, 10”, 14”, 18”) or just 2 or maybe 3 and change them out to avoid buying 5 at the start?

The link I posted show you all the popular widebody channels out there. There’s not a lot of difference among them. Most start with either Sorbo Quicksilver, Ettore Super Channel or Unger Ninja.

No matter what widebody channel you go with, I’d highly recommend the Ninja handle 40 degree, seen here:

As for standard channels, you can get a couple handles and interchange channels as needed.
This is a versatile one:

I would want to recommend that you at least start with a couple handles. Maybe not one for each channel from the start but you’ll wanna carry a couple different sized squeegees on you while on the job. (I personally keep 3 on my belt) you won’t wanna keep changing those constantly through day.

Since we’re on the subject of cross compatibility…

Are work belts / holsters / pockets pretty much brand specific? I picked up an Unger Ergotec belt but found I couldnt get any of my loop mount pockets onto it? Is it only meant to carry Ergotec line belts etc?

The padding makes it a bit wider than standard belts, so some items may not fit.
