Going business to business next week

Hey everyone, Dave from JD Powerwashing. Brand new to this world but very eager to start. Short background: got started in April, spent a good amount of money getting set up. Built a trailer, bought a work van, website up, door hangers, business cards, logo mad, yard sign, bought the xero pure system with 40 foot pole and an entire window cleaning kit. Got the insurance and uniforms and we are ready to go.

I plan on practicing a lot this upcoming weekend cleaning windows and on Monday I plan on hitting the area to try and get some business. Can you guys offer up what your approach is to business? What I have so far is a proposal form with my logo and a spot where I can write the business name in and the price it would be to clean their windows. I was going to write it up before walking in and then ask to speak with the manager (still wondering what the best term is to ask for. Manager? Maintenance manager? Building manager? Supervisor? Etc…)

I guess that is where I am stuck. I just want to have a solid approach for when I do get face to face with the person in charge of deciding if they need a window cleaner. What have you guys found to be the best approach when you first meet the guy in charge?

Welcome glad to have you here!

Our approach is to get a window count first. Then go inside and ask for the general manager or owner. You always want to speak to the person highest up. If its a corp. account most likely you will need to try and speak with a DM. Most times the gm wont be able to give you their info but try anyways. Next is your pitch. I always try to ask open ended questions … not “do you have a window cleaner” or “do you need your windows cleaned”. I also try to find the best times of day for canvassing. If they are restaurants between 2 & 4 is a great time. Practice makes perfect and that saying is true when it comes to canvassing as well. You will have a lot of NOs and some rude encounters as well. Dont let that get you down, keep at it and you will sell jobs. O yes and be sure you are keeping track of the businesses your stopping at. Over 70% of our sells come from follow ups, especially from corp accounts.

This is the back of our card. We leave the quote right on the card to try and make things quick and easy. If its a corp account they will most likely need a formal quote and then we will send that with HCP

Nice card. I guess since we already made our cards without a quick quote spot, attaching a proposal form with the quote and our business card attached with a paperclip would accomplish the same thing for now.

So instead of going into say, a McDonalds or a Burger King, do you think it would be more advantageous to try and get the DM’s contact info first and reach out that way?
