Freezing water

I am wondering if you add windshield washer fluid to your mixture or if you use straight windshield washer fluid, I added it to my mix, but still had freezing on some windows while I cleaned a Petco, any input would be awesome. Thanks.

U need to be aware of how much u need to add and also to which temperatures the antifreeze u use protects. Theres some that go down to -30 Celsius and some that even go down to -60 Celsius i think.

I personally wouldnt use it pure as it will smeer alot possibly.

At my apprenticeship company we dont use it, we stop working on below mines 5 Celsius unless theres interior work to do.

Get a squirt bottle and fill it with washer fluid. Then fill your bucket with hot water and whatever amount of soap you use. I use the bucket mainly to defrost my mop and get soap. I wring the water out and then when I’m on the glass I use the washer fluid to rewet.

I haven’t heard that method, I’ll give that a try, thank you! Do you wet your mop or do you wet the glass?

I wet the mop. By using a squirt bottle you always have the right mixture (pure) and you don’t waste it in a window cleaning bucket. It gets expensive if you bust through a gallon of washer fluid every day.

Then just use your bucket to defrost your mop and get more soap.

Use methanol, not windshield wash.

If you use straight methanol, use gloves. That’s stuff is poisonous, it can be absorbed through the skin if I remember right, just be careful. But it can be used and has been for years.

Just wondering guys how much washing fluid or methanol do you find works without making the glass smear?

Excellent advice. But, guys, please do not think that windshield wash is any less poisonous. It’s the same stuff just less concentrated with crappy cleaning stuff.

Use gloves regardless of your antifreeze of choice.

I prefer the pure stuff. Glove up and be safe.

There is no easy answer. The temperature will determine how much you use.

Don’t use more than necessary, never experienced “smearing”. But, I never use windshield wash, might’ve been something in that causing smears???

Guess that proves the old saying “Less is more”. Thank you.

Methanol is the key ingredient in windshield washing fluid.

I also do that method, if it isn’t to cold.
When it’s colder the window washer fluid goes in to the bucket, or else everything start to frosted :+1:
