Film/haze on window

Yesterday I had a window that was terrible. Scratches all over the places and I couldn’t get it clean because it seemed like I put too much soap on it and it got a sort of haze or film. This is the first time I’ve encountered this, but have heard of it plenty of times. I got home, emptied my bottles and filled them with much less soap and it cut my suds down, but not much. Today I did probably the best job I’ve done since starting this. As it gets colder can I just count on there being more haze left on the windows? How can I get rid of it? Will less soap do it or do I need to something entirely different like Glass Gleam?

Not sure what the haze is, maybe too much soap? You don’t have to us glass gleam, we prefer it. But dawn will do too and shouldn’t haze up your window.

To much soap is always a problem and leaves the glass more likely to get dirty faster. This measuring float bottle always helped me no use to much soap https://windowcleaner.com/shop/titan-float-bottle-8-oz

Is the haze purple? If so, then the window isn’t your problem.

However, I have run into a few windows that were really weird. I mean really weird. One house had windows that didn’t matter how much or little soap you had it WOULD leave a haze. It’s this one house and only this house out of our database. So we have to do the windows in the morning in full sun so that we can towel off any haze left. Super weird.

It was like gasoline. When you caught it right it looked like a faint rainbow.

That sounds like problems with the glass itself, This rainbow effect is called anisotropy. And every tempered glass has this kind of image. You can see this image with polarized filters, such as sunglasses, or sometimes even with naked eyes in certain light and conditions. I have read that this could be the cause, read about it, interesting.

It seemed to be all over the glass. I wiped it down and it was like instead of wiping it away I just moved it.

Maybe too much soap then. Dawn and joy are detergents and residues of the soap will stay on the window. That could be the case here, try just a couple of squirts of soap, you cam add more if you need it. Get a a bottle that pre-measures for you, so you can be more accurate with the soap.

I thought all soap was a detergent. What about Palmolive?

Yes, you are correct. Any dish soaps are, they leave a film behind. That’s why we like Glass Gleam 4. We really like the product, but that’s us.
