This topic is so difficult to make a decision. My wife and I spent weeks just brain storming ideas for names and I even asked a few of my clients their opinions for the name change before I decided. You have to factor in several points such as the average age/generation of your clients, ease of spelling and memorability, overall length/# of words, descriptiveness vs brevity, and distinctiveness. You also have the ability in most cases to name your LLC one thing and your business as something else entirely by filing a DBA/fictitious name registration.

Just as an example, my wife and I came up with Smack My Glass as one of our front runners. We thought it was funny, would stick in your mind because of the innuendo, and was relevant to the work because so many times it is hand prints that you are cleaning off of glass windows and slider doors.

However, after asking around we didn’t get as good of feedback as we were hoping because of my major client source is retirement communities. Most of my clients are 55-80 and they are from a more conservative upbringing. We did get some positive feedback with the name and it did make people laugh, but overall it wasn’t as well received as we wanted. So I went a different direction. The company is now called Quick N Clean - Pressure Washing & Windows. But for the IRS we are still called Smack My Glass LLC. Ha!

The options you posted are ok, but are they descriptive enough? What type of cleaning would I know you do from your name? Is it house cleaning, janitorial services, pressure cleaning, or just windows? Look at the name of the forum runner - Luke … the Window Cleaner. It is succinct and descriptive and lets the client know the main focus of the business.

It is a difficult decision to make. It’s also about being able to build a brand around the name. I failed with our first brand in my opinion. And still have work to do with the LTWC brand.

I would create a name that incorporates what you do and try to make a simple colorful logo along with it. Draft up 3 different ideas and get feedback from friends, family and here even.

If you want to be a “brand,” well that’s more than just window cleaning, no? Coco-cola is a brand. Pepsi is a brand. Nike is a brand. When you start off, no one’s really thinking about brand awareness. Your “brand” is what your client thinks of you when they hear of your company’s name. It doesn’t have to be complicated. If nothing else, go with your gut, so to speak.
