I’m curious to know how Canadian pricing for residential window cleaning compares to American pricing. I’ve heard the number $5/pane thrown around when speaking of American pricing, but surprisingly that number seems high to me here in Canada, and our dollar isn’t even worth as much.
I’d love to know what some Canadians, especially on the West Coast, have been doing for pricing.
For now, while we’re starting out (we’re moving into windows from our roof cleaning & treatment core), we’ve been pricing homes based on square footage for all levels with windows to clean and customers have been quite receptive to it. We use a combination of water fed pole for 2nd lvl+ and traditional mop/squeegee for all ground level glass.
So, I typically use flat rate pricing, but I wanted to check my per pane prices so I did a window count on the last house I did with WFP and it ended up being $5 per pane. I felt like that was a reasonable price, and I live in Canada too, just east of Toronto.
Thanks Dan. How do you find customers respond to your flat rate pricing? Do you have flat rate per range of square footage? Do you include all floors with windows in your square footage or just the building’s footprint? Do you quote residential and commercial different or the same?
Hi Roga,
So far I’ve had a better response for pricing from Residential at my rate of $3 exterior only, $5 int/ext per pane. Commercial at $3 per pane in/ext on regular cleaning hasn’t taken off really at all, as there seems to be too many that go far less (as low as $1 per pane on strip malls). There will always be those who think the price is too high, but I’ve had a really good response so far for the exterior only. I’m in Southern Alberta - Lethbridge and Area.
My minimum rates are posted on my site, so I think it weeds out the cheap people. I don’t get complaints about it, but the odd person gets upset when they have a very small home. Maybe checking out the prices page on my website might answer some of your questions too.
Residential and industrial/commercial I price the same because they typically are once or twice a year.
For commercial route work, (must be weekly, bi-weekly or every 4 weeks), my minimum charge is $10, and I typically charge $2 per pane per side for an average window. Large panes that require a pole, and tools in hand to finish, I treat as 2 panes because it is the same work as 2.
