I was watching a video of a well-known personality on YouTube that always posts different things about having a window cleaning business. I never see anything about him actually cleaning windows, though. He shot the video of himself cleaning a restaurant and he seemed terrible at operating the mop and squeegee. Like watching a monkey operate power tools. The thing is he made sure it was meticulous. He mopped it, squeegeed it then went after it with a rag and finally looked at it from every angle to make sure it was how he wanted it. It was something to see. My question is if a guy can actually take this time with every place he does as long as he gets it done well or does the customer actually mind him taking a longer amount of time? It has just really stuck with me the way he talks about his business growing, though he doesn’t seem to be so great at operating the tools that everyone says are so important.
In the end hopefully a person will be more into running their business instead of working in their business. You want to be able to provide a high quality service , and you want to be fast and efficient so that you’re making more money. Hopefully then you can train your employees to do the same thing and then you can work on your company. Once your business starts to grow you will worry much less about tools and Techniques, and more about building sales and running a profitable business.
I’m in the training employees stage myself. Worrying about producing high quality service is fine when you are starting out. Naturally your quality will drop a bit when you shift away from delivering the service yourself and eventually have people run it for you. The key is to find guys who can one day do it better than you can.
My martial arts master says it best, he told me something similar when I had a question like yours. He said “Worrying about a minor detail, takes away from the perspective of the whole picture. Yes it’s good to have a foundation in but at some point it just happens automatically without you worrying about it.”
Hope this helps.
Another thought is that he was going slower for the sake of the video. If you want to see a master window cleaner in action look up Jordie Palanzie at Window Cleanse. You’ll be impressed, trust me.
I like Luke and Reanna’s videos. They are everyday people in this trade that work everyday like you and me to build their brand and pay their bills.
One thing that I have found out about this business…I you are not able to clean windows then you probably can’t operate and make a profit in the window cleaning business. I have seen a fair amount of corporate people buy a franchise and not make it.
Most of the cleaners that I have met, got into this trade to be independent, set their own schedule and make better than average pay to make a better life for their family. Not everyone does it to build a mega-monster to sell and act like an executive.
I agree and I like everything you said. However, this is the difference between those who own their job make decent money and those who own the business as an interest and produce leveraged income or some people call it passive income. Its definitely not wrong to enjoy your business on your own terms. I think its fun to do especially with a team that shares not only the same excitement as you but also similar goals as well.
Yea man. Everyone grows at their own pace. I’m happy that others are growing and building their brand. We also need guys like Brandon and Josh Latimer to show us how to get there
Listened to brandon at last years convention…Extremely sharp guy.
Is there a website or something for the convention?
Sure is !
I just live about two hours away from Branson. I’ll try to be there for sure. Thanks, man.
