Hey guys i have a big 200 window construction clean up job. All windows are tempered glass. Usually when I do these jobs I only use a 3M finishing pad, and sometimes even the concrete off chemical to remove some tough debris from the windows. Would it be safe and more effective to razor the window entirely and use 0000 steel wool? Im not very educated on tempered glass, besides it can scratch easy. Client has signed a scratch waiver as well. What are your thoughts and experience with tempered glass.
I would be careful with the scraper, even with a waiver. Depends on how much “debris” is on the windows and what type too. I try to avoid the razor at all cost but if they want the debris off and it won’t come off with standard methods then you do what the customer wants. Just explain to them the process and the risks in doing this. You can also use plastic blades, be careful that after removing concrete off the glass and before you start pading or steel wooling it to be mindful that if you get some concrete debris caught in those items you could be scratching the glass in the process, especially if your putting a lot of pressure on the pad or wool. I always remove the concrete then take a brush on the pole and wash it down good before using my wool. The brush usually don’t trap debris because of its long filaments and it flushes all th concrete off the window. That’s just how I’ve done it over the years, mostly though with concrete. Definitely look at Luke’s videos on scraping if you intend to do that. If you read the window/glass manufacturers instructions on cleaning glass, they will say no blades on the glass, but that’s not the real word. Anyway…hope gives you a little insight.
